ALL ABOARD! STEAM TRAINS AND SANTA SPECIALS 🎅🏻
On weekends throughout December, steam railways across the country invite families onboard to enjoy the beautiful countryside along with a visit from the man himself, making it the perfect activity in the run up to Christmas.
South Devon Railway
The South Devon Railway recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and runs along the valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. The trains are kitted out with a special Grotto carriage, and everyone on board will get to visit Father Christmas.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers two routes on its Santa Express - one from Grosmont station with an onboard Santa’s Grotto, and the other from Pickering station where Father Christmas comes and visits people in their seats, whilst the elves regale the passengers with Christmas tales along the way.

West Somerset Railway host a range of festive activities along with the Santa Special, from carol singing to ‘Whistletoe and Wine’ trains! They also bring Santa’s Winter Wonderland to Crowcombe station, where passengers can disembark the steam train to visit Santa’s Grotto, an elves workshop and Santa’s sleigh.
Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway’s steam trains meander through the Kent countryside to New Romney station, where passengers can see Santa arrive on his sleigh and can visit Santa’s grotto.
