BEHIND THE SEAMS – MARY SHELLEY’S HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN

The brand-new Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein attraction has been ‘given life’ in Bath, the city where the famous author first wrote about the legendary creature.

Set inside a traditional Bath townhouse the venue is bursting with unique artefacts, offering immersive and interactive environments as the story of Mary Shelley and her creature is unveiled.

The highlight of the attraction is an 8ft tall, breathing animatronic of the creature created by Dr Frankenstein as Shelley had conceived in her novel. The creature is sure to send a shiver down the spine of those visiting this fascinating experience.

One section of the attraction turns its focus to the popular culture aspects of Frankenstein, with a floor filled with posters, props, collector’s items, and memorabilia.

For those that like to solve problems, there's also an escape room called Victor’s Lair. Here players will need to interpret the deranged ramblings of Victor Frankenstein to find their way to freedom.

Like any visitor attraction, the team at Bath Attractions wanted to offer visitors ways to continue their spine-chilling experience by offering a range of gifts to take home. The gift shop at Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein has therefore been packed with a plethora of ghoulishly themed items such as masks, games, plush toys, books, and a range of clothing.

For the clothing, the team came to Kingfisher Giftwear to see what was possible with a clear brief that high-quality products would be needed to match the high standards of the attraction.

"It was important for both us and the team at Bath Attractions that we found the right products of the best quality,” said Nigel Frost, Commercial Director, Kingfisher Giftwear. “We have a fantastic range of core products which met both the quality and affordability requirements."

The design team at Kingfisher then came up with multiple concepts using House of Frankenstein artwork across a range of products including T-shirts, hoodies, bags, and tea towels. After scrutiny from the team in Bath, an initial line-up of products was chosen and quickly put into production in time for the grand opening.

Production methods included the use of DTG (Direct to Garment) printing. This allows for a vibrant array of colours to be printed, like on this Warhol inspired Mary Shelley tea towel.

For giftwear, it's often not just the custom printing and embroidery that we are supplying. We also supported the attraction to think about how products would be merchandised in their shop by creating custom wraps for the tea towels and neck tags for the garments.

"I found that the attraction is very well thought out and far exceeded my expectations, we wish the team at Bath Attractions a great success with this new venture," said Frost.
